LocalDB not supported on this OS.

Applies to: Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
 

Problem Description.
 

We were trying to install LocalDB on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, but we were not able to install it.


On Windows XP Professional, we received the following error:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB RC0
Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation.

On a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, we received the following error:

This installation package cannot be installed by the
Windows Installer Service. You must install a Windows
service pack that contains a newer version of the
Windows Installer service.



 

Cause.


SQL Server 2012 (Denali) and SQL Server 2012 LocalDB are not supported on Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows XP.

Windows Installer 4.5 is also required.
