Error installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable.


Applies to: SQL Server 2016 CTP 3.2.
 

Problem Description.
 

A user reported that SQL Server 2016 setup program hanged a long time on the "vcruntime140 cpu32 action" during installation, then the installation completed and received the following errors from SQL Server setup:


Error installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable
VS Shell installation has failed with exit code 1638.
Error code: 1638


Solutions/Workarounds.


Try to download and install VC++ 2015 manually from here.

Error 1638 means another version of the product is already installed as mentioned by Aaron Stebner on this thread:
